Nude Beach

Nude sunbathing is not officially allowed on South Padre Island. But about 10 miles north up the beach from beach access 6 lies the county line between Cameron and Willacy county. Once you cross it, you are out of the jurisdiction of any law enforcement that patrols the beach. After you cross the line, some people do take their clothes off. You will know when you’ve reached the crossover point because it’s marked by some kind of homemade sign. It used to be a log with nude beach painted on it, but it’s currently an old lifeboat that’s been meticulously decorated with beach trash.

This old lifeboat is one of the hidden gems of South Padre Island. It’s an artistic endeavor that must have taken days to complete. Well worth the trip up the beach to stop and view it up close. Take your clothes off and dance naked around it.
Hardhat Tree
A very long way north up the beach (almost to the channel), a non-native species of tree can be found on South Padre Island. It’s called the hardhat tree. It’s amazing that people have the time and inclination to beach comb all these “washed up on the shore” hard hats and collect them all here.
They definitely earn SPI Cool Points!
Bobz World
If only for the picture taking, you have to stop by Bobz World. Even better, venture into their huge store where you’ll find all types of things island related and more. We like the pirate gear and ocean decor items. Let them know SPI Computers recommended you.

Island Node
End Of The Road
As you head north on the island, the main drag Padre Boulevard turns into Ocean Boulevard also known as State Park Road 100. After leaving town, you’ll see public beach access 5 and 6 where you can drive onto the beach. After these, eventually the road ends. But there are still another 15+ miles of island. You’ll need an off-road capable vehicle from here.
Joe’s Oyster Bar
Just across the causeway from South Padre Island, you’ll find some of the best seafood around at Joe’s Oyster Bar in Port Isabel. You can also take some fresh from the gulf seafood home from their store. The peel and eat shrimp are delicious and the crab cakes are phenomenal.
SPI Computers recommends their grilled fish, shrimp, & oyster platter.
Virtual Tour
Take a virtual around South Padre Island with Google maps. Start at Coconuts on Laguna Boulevard, Louie’s Backyard is right next to it, and then comes the Wahoo. It’s the best bar hop walking tour on the island. The food and drink are phenomenal and the bayside sunsets spectacular from any and all of these establishments.
Rust Battle
$1.75 for 3 Minutes
Rust and corrosion are facts of life on South Padre Island. Make sure that you wash your vehicles often to combat it. The salt air hit’s hard and fast. The Isle Wash is the only car wash on the island.
